At the core of BIE Academy are Henry and Amber Bolen, both Certified Health Physicists with over 50 years of combined experience across nearly every facet of the radiation protection field. The courses offered by BIE Academy are developed in collaboration with Dr. Joseph Bevelacqua, PhD, CHP, RRPT—one of the leading authorities in health physics education—by transforming his esteemed Certified Health Physicist (CHP) prep course into a modern, accessible, and dynamic online CHP prep program.
The Bolens' careers have taken them from the high-security environment of the DOE Nuclear Weapons Complex to the essential operations of commercial nuclear power plants, navigating the halls of state regulatory agencies, and tackling the technical challenges of fuel fabrication, consulting, and advanced training.
Henry and Amber don’t just grasp the science—they’ve experienced the reality of being health physicists in some of the nation’s most demanding settings. More importantly, they understand the struggle of preparing for the Certified Health Physicist (CHP) exam. Having spent over a decade preparing intermittently, they know firsthand the complexities, the gaps in existing resources, and the pressure that accompanies the pursuit of this elite certification.
Their extensive knowledge of the CHP preparation landscape—and the strategies that truly work—led them to partner with Dr. Joseph Bevelacqua, the renowned expert who literally wrote the book on passing the CHP exam. Together, they are modernizing his gold-standard in-person course into a fully online CHP prep format that is accessible, flexible, and completely redesigned for today’s professionals.
